The History of Women's Day celebration dates back to 1900s. On February 28, 1909, in New York, the Socialist Party of America organized a Women's day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Later in 1910, the International Socialist Woman's Conference suggested that Women's day should be celebrated every year.
After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became officially Women's day and is celebrated globally. International Women's Day was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations in 1975.
